The Bestiary

Scenographed concert

Dragons, birds, fish, and panthers: references to animals abound in medieval art. A true scenic and musical fresco, this Bestiary brings this singular imagination back to life by engaging both the eye and the ear. Through a repertoire drawn from Southern Europe in the 13th and 14th centuries, ranging from the Cantigas de Santa María to the caccie, domestic and fantastical animals take part in sometimes extravagant tales where the spirit of wonder is never far away. Beyond the adventures being recounted, these texts and their music fascinate us through what they reveal about the beliefs of men and women of the past and their relationship with the animal world.
